Music for Screen – S4S : Week 6

Mica Levi’s score for Under the Skin is something I still remember when I watched it years ago. Their score is very complementary to the eerie and unsettling nature of the film. The scene that especially come to mind is when we are in the protagonists ‘realm’ and the man pops like balloon. Inspired by Kubrick and Ligeti’s Micropolyphony/ cluster chords as a tension device but also its use of juxtaposition in silence, and dynamics both in relation to the music and non musical sound.

I recently watched Memoria (2021) what reminded me of under the skin but much less sinister. if I remember right (ha) sound in Memoria was purely diagetic, what, as a slower film, gave it an unsettling almost surreal feeling what I found to be quite ironic.

I found this very analytical video.
