Proteus – Interactive Audio

When does the interactive audio in a game make the game become an instrument?

Last time I played proteus was many years ago, when it came out on Playstation Vita.

I came across a mod ‘Purgateus‘ by Devine Lu Linvega, who also worked on the Orca live coding environment.

Modding is a big part of games culture to me, an aligns with my thoughts on sampling, and is probably why I feel an affinity to it.

Proteus is an exploration game.

I think this aligns with the creative exploration that I want with the game/instrument im trying to make, where the player’s navigation in the space becomes the notation/playing and the environment becomes the interface.

Proteus is the sort of game that is usually described as a walking simulator nowadays. I got a book out of the library called Wandering Games by Messisa Kagen.
