Sampling
One of the things that got me into using sound was sampling. I didn’t really have much exposure to hip-hop music and culture.
I kind of found my interest in production techniques like Jan Jelinek’s Loop-Finding-Jazz-Records
The abstraction of sonic material, tearing it apart, repurposing.
A bit like origami with sound, it retains physical characteristic, like the colour if paper (tonality) but is folded into new forms. I used to spend a lot of time as a child making origami.
I used to use Ableton Live’s Sampler device a lot, and once I got a push I really enjoyed slicing samples up
I will experiment with resampling in my audio paper
I created a granular synth in Max and used it to randomly ‘rearrange’ a field recording. It created some interesting results when listening back. One of the most obvious results was when you could hear the roar of overhead airplanes.
