LABYRINTH SOUNDSCAPE
For the soundscape of the labyrinth, I wanted to make something textural that in encouraged the player’s sense of navigational listening.
I was inspired by the game Proteus and its generative soundscape and encouragement of navigational listening.
The soundscape will be played through unity’s spacialised environment, as well as through the RNBO plugin/instrument.
Initially, I wanted the environmental sounds to be focused more on the idea of the space itself, but after experimenting more with the idea of the whole ‘game’ as an instrument, I wanted it to be focused more on an interface for exploring audio samples in the space, with the focus on the ‘thread’ of memory the dark linear path of the labyrinth.
In the final version, I used placeholder samples (though with aesthetic consideration) of Hildegard von Bingen.
