Sound Effects
I created some small sound effects for the game.
A tomb/ stone door opening – I created this by recording the sound of 2 ceramic bowls being rubbed together. I then pitched it down with 2 layers, EQ’d it. I timed how long it took the door to open in the game (5 seconds) and cropped it to fit this.
I was surprised how good it sounded, especially being the creative process was impromptu and only took 5 mins.
(a note from the future) on exporting/building the unity project, for some reason the time that it takes to open the door is much longer, so the sound no longer syncs. this is a shame, however, it still serves its purpose to giving feedback to the player that the door is opening.
Candles sound. For the Candle sound I used Ableton’s vinyl effect and Eq’ed a filtered int to make it sound like a flickering candle so that when the player approaches the candles, they give off a subtle sound. Although not part of the sound process, I used Blender to 3D model a simple wall-mounted candle asset as well as the lectern that the player places the book on.

Room Ambience. For the library room ambience, I recorded the room tone of my bedroom. I the pitched it down and filtered it to give a low rumble that set the inital tone for the space, and made the player feel the need to leave to room and alleviate pressure once they enter the labyrinth.
The sound effect the books make on collision is a foley recording I did, though if I were to spend for time on it I would add random pitch variation for when it collides.
